CCTV Is Worse Than Big Brother

Shoppers in Crawstown, Surrey, have complained to the council about the new "talking" CCTV cameras in the High Street.
Sara Snodegrass said she was horrified to hear a voice telling everyone to pick their feet up and stop slouching.
“I thought it was a real invasion of privacy,” she said. “Where is it going to end?
"I want to be able to wander around town without the terrible feeling that there's a man in a peaked cap somewhere with his feet up on a console pointing at a screen and saying to his friend, "Euuuhhh, look at 'er, she's scratching her ass!" to some friend he's charged a pound to come and watch," she added.
Her husband Cyril said he felt like an unwilling contestant on Big Brother, except there was absolutely no chance of fame and fortune at the end of it.
Beryl Bannocky said she was walking along when she suddenly heard, “"What are you thinking, lady? Patchwork shopping bag with blue trousers and bomber jacket? Are you stuck in the 1970s?"
Beryl said it was “beyond embarrassing” when everyone turned to stare at her.
Painter and decorator Kris Capuche also complained that whoever was manning the cameras had suddenly shouted out, “Will you please stop picking your nose!”
He said, “The whole street stopped and we all looked at each other.”
Then came the message, “You. You in the paint-splattered overalls with the gormless look on your face.”
Kris said, “I suddenly realised everyone was looking at me.”
Other comments people have complained about include:
  • Stop looking at that sweater! I could feed a family of nine for a year on how much that costs.
  • There's a button missing on your coat, you scruffy oik.
  • Those ear-rings do not go with that necklace.
  • Stilettos? To go shopping? Are you MAD!
  • Have you had your hair cut like that for a bet?
Crawstown Town Council is looking into the complaints. A spokesman said, “For every complaint we get, we get a comment from someone saying we’re doing a public service by shaming the badly dressed and badly behaved.”
